Fall is the perfect time for family pictures. Whether it’s a school project, or just something to capture your kids growing up, it’s always nice to have a few good images of your little ones.

With that in mind, I’ve put together some outfit ideas and a color palette for fall family pictures.

Scarves, Hats, and Gloves

Depending on where you live it might be cold during your photo shoot so stay warm with Scarves, Hats, and Gloves. I love a good scarf that can be worn as a cozy wrap or tied around the neck. The right hat and gloves will keep your head, hands warm even in cold weather.

Remember:

Make sure everyone is bundled up for all of these outfits as it might get chilly outside during this time of year

Boots or Sneakers

Shoes make the look – even during a September, October or November shoot. Boots or Sneakers, depending on the weather. The right shoes can add a little flair and fun to your look while keeping you comfortable for a long photo shoot in the Fall sun!

Sweaters for Everyone

Matching or coordinated sweaters are a good way to keep everyone warm and stylish. I love sweaters with flowers on them for girls and guys!

Sweater Shopping Tip: Sweaters are a Fall staple, so you should be able to find some good ones at your local department store or mall. My personal favorite is JCPenney because they have such great deals and sales going on all the time.

Flannels and Plaids

Fannels and plaids are a signature fall look. They’re so warm and cozy, perfect for Fall!

Look Good Tip: Flannels are great because they come in a variety of colors to go with any outfit. You can wear them as dresses or skirts, cut off into shorts – the possibilities are endless!

Hoodies

Fall means cooler weather and shorter days – it just doesn’t get better than that. Do you prefer cold weather? Hoodies make taking your family photo easy breezy. Plus their cuddly-warm material will keep everyone from slipping around out on the ice! Don’t forget to bring one along when you head over to pick pumpkins at Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch this year too!

Cardigan, Turtleneck, and Leggings

Fall style can be a little more dressy than normal, but that doesn’t mean you have to get all fancy! Cardigans are perfect for fall because they can cover your arms in case it’s a chilly day. Turtlenecks and leggings are great too because they keep the chill off without making you feel like an overheated sausage on the beach!

Button-down shirt with a skirt or pants

Button-down shirt with trousers or a skirt for the ladies is a classic look.

For the guys, a button-down shirt with jeans or pants will do. You can also mix it up by wearing an oxford and chinos for more of a preppy look!

If you’re going on a fun fall day outing like apple picking, pumpkin carving, or visiting a corn maze-and want to keep your little ones comfortable from start to finish.

Brown Corduroy Pants

Brown corduroy pants are a go-to color scheme for fall and your family’s outfits.

They’re perfect for keeping warm in the morning and help keep you cozy all day long!

You can make them work with almost any other style – throw on a sweater or t-shirt with jeans and you’re good to go! Preppy style? Wear buttoned down shirt and nice boots. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy this time with your family!

Black Sweater or Turtleneck

Black sweaters for a family photo are a little more formal and might be intimidating for kids.

Wear them with jeans or dress pants to make the outfit work! You can also wear a turtleneck under your sweater, which is perfect if you want an extra layer without too many wrinkles in your clothes.

If you’re feeling daring – try wearing a white one for some really cool pictures where it looks like snow all around you!

Button Down Shirt

A button-down shirt will always do the trick when dressing up for family photos. It’s comfy but still stylish…perfection! Wear it with slacks, chinos, corduroy trousers, or denim-whatever fits best for your style and personality.

If you have boys who are being tough to photograph , you might want to consider a button-down shirt with tailored pants and a tie. This would work best for boys in the preteen or teenage years, but it could be fun with younger kids too!

Wear an Oversized Sweater

A great way of dressing up is to wear an oversized sweater over your clothes. It’s simple, comfortable, and perfect if you’re looking for something that will keep you warm without all those annoying wrinkles. .

This also gives some really adorable pictures where it looks like they’ve got their arms wrapped around themselves-so cute! You can do this on top of jeans or leggings (perfect for fall!), or go ahead and dress them up in slacks as well. Just make sure there
